How to make your dream job a reality

Everyone has a career path, a dream and an angle of expertise which they love to engage in their “perfect” workplace. Unfortunately most people are unable to meet this goal due to their personal obligations, experience, financial commitments, family life etc, and need to compromise with a profession which they have no interest in doing whatsoever. As a result most employees simply blame it on the recession and take no effort to move up the career ladder as they assume it as being useless. This not only decreases productivity and optimum throughout from the potential employee, but it also has a negative impact on the career goals and even company objectives of the workplace in which such an individual is employed. This is because when an employee is satisfied with their job and creates a career goal initiating from their current position, they actually benefit the organization by obtaining maximum potential and in turn increase the respective employee’s psyche and financial and career objectives.

One of the biggest obstacles which most graduates and inexperienced individuals face when submitting their resume for a job is the incapability of proving themselves to the prospective employer. Another de-motivating factor that such employees face in the workplace is when they get rejected multiple times due to incomplete resumes, insufficient experiences or sometimes even in capabilities of communication. This feeling is even more devastating when such potential employees have been employed for another organization in the past and have a difficult time explaining the reasons for leaving their past employer at the interview. These are but a few of the reasons for which people tend to forget and give up hope on acquiring their dream job, as they get the feeling of being under qualified and rejected from literally every organization they visit.

Before understanding the means by which a potential employee could unleash their potential and step foot on the negative feedback they received from their past experiences, its essential to clarify the overall definition of the term “dream job”. This is because most people assume that a dream job is a profession where they do not have to work based on a superior’s order and could literally get the perks of the company CEO! This is a totally invalid claim, as a dream job refers to that profession where an employee is given the opportunity to showcase their fullest potential in the workplace without compromising or conflicting with their personal time and space. As impractical as these sounds, the fact of the matter is that it is most certainly possible! For instance, there is several work at home moms nowadays who spend quality time with their kids at home, and do a part of their official chores after their children are gone to bed.

One should also understand that, especially young women, that people with bad attitudes are present in all genders and only depends on the personality of the individual and not any other factors. This further helps to ensure that the potential employer who carries out the interview in an organization obtains the right response from the prospective candidate and thereby increases the chances of being chosen for the job.

Job seekers, who have read, watch or heard about successful women and men in the workplace would tend to understand they the main aspect which they generally mention as a means of their success is through the word, luck. As much of a motivator as it is for them, this is often a de-motivator for an individual who does not have much experience and undergoes much difficulty in finding a suitable job. This is an incorrect approach taken by these individuals irrespective whether such people gained their reputation through luck or otherwise, because the only means through which a person could become successful even through luck is by putting the effort into their skills. This implies that if prospective candidates take the adequate measures to understand the reasons behind the success of such personalities and strive to acquire at least some of those traits, they have a great opportunity of attuning that success at some point in their lives rather than the individuals with pessimistic attitudes towards success.

Two of the main approaches which prospective candidates should take prior to facing a job interview are to refine their resume or curriculum vitae and to acquire and develop sharp interview skills. It is also advisable to attach a cover letter specific to the job one is applying as it would give a better impression to the employer about the individual. An effective means through which the prospective candidate could enhance and improve their resume without spending much money on professional services is by reviewing the content of the document with family members and friends. This provides another advantage which no professional resume service provider could ensure because of the fact that the people who would be providing the feedback would know the candidate very well and therefore have greater potential of telling the right changes to be made to the resume based on the candidate’s present experience and qualifications.

A common problems most people face when facing an interview is insufficient training and exposure. Although one may not be able to get the experience of facing an interview at home, she should strive to take the necessary measures in order to get tips and advice from family members and friends prior to the interview so that they could easily provide intuitive and smart answers without hesitating or consuming much time. As far as possible its also advisable to form groups amongst friends and team members and discuss potential questions amongst each other so that you could get a better idea about the nature of questions which would be dealt with at the interview. One should also ensure that they take the relevant measures in order to express themselves precisely to the employer as the inability to convince the interviewer would lead to negative remarks being made against the candidate despite the fact that the individual understand the topic in great detail. This is a common problem certain graduates make as they are often unable to express their full competencies to the interviewer in a precise manner that they are unfortunately given negative remarks due to incorrect ideas being present in the interviewers mind.
